President of the Austrian Federal Council in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, PA, and New York, NY with Delegation

Christine Schwarz-Fuchs, the President of the Austrian Federal Council (Bundesrat) visited the U.S. with a delegation of colleagues from 16 – 20 May 2022. Also in the delegation were Vice President of the Austrian Federal Council Günther Novak, leader of the Austrian Social Democrats (SPÖ) in the Federal Council Korinna Schumann, leader of the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) in the Federal Council Andrea Eder-Gitschthaler, and leader of the Green Party in the Federal Council Claudia Hauschildt-Buschberger.

After arriving in Washington, DC on May 16th, the delegation met with experts from the National Institute of Health to discuss the state of COVID-19 in the U.S. and Austria as well as geriatric care in the US health system. The also met with Senator John Boozman (R-AR), Senator John Hickenlooper (D-CO), and Congressman Brian Mast (R-FL).

On 18 May 2022, the delegation traveled to Philadelphia, PA, where they met with the Honorary Austrian Consul Greg Montanaro and representatives from Engel Machinery, an Austrian firm and world market leader in injection molding machinery. There the delegation discussed Engel’s apprenticeship program and the implementation of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the U.S. and Austria regarding support of best practices for apprenticeship programs in both countries.

The delegation’s trip concluded in New York City on May 19-20 with visits to the UN, where they met with Asa Regner, the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of UN Women, and Amina J. Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN and Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Group.
