Celebrating An Unforgettable End Of School Year

On June 2, 2021, fifth graders from our Embassy Adoption partner class at Hyde-Addison Elementary School, a public school in northwest Washington, DC, wrapped up this very different school year with a virtual capstone presentation on Austria.

Deputy Chief of Mission Guenther Salzmann recognized all the students for their curiosity and enthusiasm in all things Austrian, soaking up everything related to our country from yodeling, our government to our use of renewable energy.

We wish everyone a safe and healthy (in-person) return to school in the fall, but first – have a wonderful summer!

Last but not least to mention, we want to express our biggest appreciation to the amazing, steadfast, full of positivity, and most energetic teacher, Marie Connolly. Without her great personality, this year of the Embassy Adoption Program (which was held virtually due to the pandemic for the first time in its history), would have not been concluded the best way it should be for all of us.

The Embassy Adoption Program is a partnership between DC Public Schools and Washington Performing Arts, which pairs embassies with fifth and sixth grade classes for a year's worth of cross-cultural learning, projects, and enrichment activities.
