Global Issues

Humanity’s steadily growing interconnectedness is one of the most significant  effects of globalization. Business, tourism as well as common languages and modern communication technology bring people around the world closer together.

The course of globalization and its effects on our climate, the environment, energy and water supply, but also on mobility or combating poverty and the protection of human rights is one of the major challenges in international relations in the 21st century. The ever-increasing interdependence of states makes it imperative to collectively respond to the current global questions.

The Austrian Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the competent ministries and organizations in Austria, plays an active role in international forums and on other relevant levels aiming at a sustainable global environment and climate policy .

Efforts to enhance international environmental protection is closely linked to the energy question. The future development of our technologically advanced societies depends more and more on the reliability of a sustainable energy supply. The Austrian Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs is working - both on the bilateral as well as multilateral level - on affordable and environmentally friendly energy solutions for Austria.

Mobility is one of the key words of the globalized society. Migration in its various forms and independent from its reasons constitutes an important element of Austrian Foreign and European Policy.
